Bangor Business Startups

Bangor is very much a rural city in the north west of Wales, with a population of just over 13,000 people, of whom over half are Welsh speaking. The city is home to an extensively modified cathedral, which was originally built way back in the 7th Century, and is fiercely proud of its long running bishopric status.

Bangor University is home to over 8,000 students during term time, which make up well over half of the overall population. There are various nightclubs and student bars for their enjoyment, and the seaside and pier provide regular attractions for tourists. The Pier in Bangor is actually one of the largest in the United Kingdom at 1500 feet, and second only to Llandudno (at 2200 feet) in the whole of Wales. It was due to be demolished after its closure in 1971, having been considered unsafe, but was redeveloped due to the large protests from the community.

Bangor City Football Club compete in the Welsh Premier League, along with the likes of Aberystwyth Town, Llanelli and TNS. They have represented their country in European competition on numerous occasions, having faced opposition such as FC Lodz, FC Haka and Athletico Madrid in their hundred year history. After a mediocre season in 2006/2007, the club appointed Neville Powell as their boss, and they are hoping for a long and successful era under the new management.

Business is booming in Bangor with many new businesses in the area. Starting a business can be a very daunting prospect and with expert help most businesses go bust with in the first few years. You may also need some financial assistance, which is where Business Angels might be the right move for you. Individually, Angels are normally willing to invest between £75,000 and £250,000, but if they operate as part of syndicate then this figure could easily be higher.
