Business Angels

Raising finance is one main concern of all business startups. Business Angels are a way for startup businesses to raise money. Business angels are usually former entrepreneurs or executives, which have past experience and business skills, which can help provide capital and business advice in return for shares in the business.

Business Angels are called this, because they often save struggling firms with both finance and advice, when no one else will. Angel investors understand the needs of new businesses through there own experience and are able to provide advice, aiding the companies in many other ways.

How do I become a Business Angel?

Amendments to the FSMA2000 (Financial Promotion Order 2001) became law on 3rd of March 2005. We have tried to summarize those amendments in the following manner:

  1. Prospective investors can self-certify themselves as "high net worth" or sophisticated investors.
  2. Companies and their advisors can send out business plan supported private equity funding opportunities provided they are requested and are sent in the "reasonable belief" that the recipient is a high net worth or sophisticated investor.
  3. The business plan must carry a warning prescribed by the Amendments as the very first page.
